Basic Information
For over 20-years SAF has been at the forefront of the fibrous superabsorbents industry. Manufactured in the UK by Technical Absorbents Ltd, the fibre is used globally in a wide range of applications, e.g. medical, cable, food packaging, hygiene, apparel and filtration. Although the fibre remains at the heart of the business, it is the wide range of washable and disposable superabsorbent SAF fabrics that are capturing the imagination of product designers.SAF Fibre SAF is a soft superabsorbent fibre that can rapidly absorb 200 times its own weight in water and 60 times its own weight in saline. The fibre is manufactured in three standard staple lengths - 6mm, 52mm and 80mm - to suit different conversion routes. All of the fibres are 10decitex. The fibres can be converted into a wide range of superabsorbent SAF fabrics and SAF spun yarns. Distribution is uniform, resulting in consistent absorption performance. The creation of respirable particles is minimal during conversion compared to other superabsorbent technologies. SAF Fabrics SAF is the key component in all of our fabrics. SAF fabrics absorb water and saline rapidly with excellent retention levels. Blood plasma can also be absorbed with greater resistance to solids blocking the surface. The SAF content does not shed when the fabrics are being cut and shaped for use, and, when fully-loaded with liquid, they do not leach gel. Fabric selection will be influenced by the final end use, but also many other requirements: absorbency, thickness, durability, and, often most importantly, budget. An experienced development team are on hand to offer advice and help with initial fabric selection for trials. Where possible, bespoke fabrics will be designed and manufactured to meet specific requirements. Bespoke Superabsorbent SolutionsWe take pride in collaborating with customers to develop products that meet specific requirements. All development journeys begin with standard off-the-shelf sampling. Feedback from this is essential as it allows us to understand which parameters need changing. In some cases, a fabric that already exists will do the job. If not, we can create a fabric that does.
